Tool Setting Work in Motorcycle Sprocket Generation Planer

Tool setting work in motorcycle sprocket development and planing:

The two edges of the planer used in generating straight tooth motorcycle sprockets are straight and form a tooth shape pressure angle a with the axis. When machining a side of a tooth, it is necessary to install the cutting edge on that side to form a tooth shape pressure angle with the vertical line. The blade tip must be in the same vertical plane as the center line YY of the developed mold. At this time, an angle template can be used for tool alignment (Figure 7-55).

The generation method described above is suitable for use in shaping straight tooth sprockets with a modulus of less than 10mm on a shaper. In order to improve the machining accuracy, it is necessary to first improve the accuracy of the two motorcycle sprockets, namely, the rotation and revolution. Only if the manufacturing accuracy of the developed mold itself is good, can the accuracy of the processed sprocket be guaranteed.

[Example] The module of the sprocket of the planed straight cylindrical motorcycle is m=3mm, and the number of teeth is z=50. What are the common normal length L and the number of spanning teeth k?

According to Table 7-10, when the number of teeth of the sprocket being processed is z=50 and the modulus is m=1mm, the common normal length is 16 937mm, crossing tooth number k=6. Since the modulus of the gear to be machined is m=3, the L value found in the table should be multiplied by the workpiece modulus m, that is:

L= L:m = 16.937mmX 3= 50.811mm

In this way, in the measurement, the number of teeth across the two clamp legs of the measuring tool k=6, and the common normal length L of the motorcycle sprocket under test should be L=50.811mm
