Carburizing and Quenching Distortion and Control of Motorcycle Sprockets:

The carburizing and quenching distortion of motorcycle sprockets is mainly manifested in two aspects: one is the radial circular runout of the gear teeth and shaft diameter, and the other is the change in tooth shape and direction.

Due to heat treatment distortion, the diameter of the driving spiral bevel gear changes while the tooth thickness also changes. For helical gears, the spiral angle changes and the pressure angle decreases.

After heat treatment, the gear shaft is ground and finely processed, and paired to timely understand its contact marks to grasp the distortion law of the gear, and corrected in advance during machining, which can meet the needs of mass gear production.

Example 1 Loader drive axle half shaft gear (Figure 4-99), made of 30CrMnTi steel, technical requirements: carburized layer depth 0.8~1 2mm, tooth surface hardness 58~63HRC, two thread hardness 33~45HRC. The distortion requirements are shown in Figure 4-99.

The well type gas carburizing furnace is adopted, and the clamping method is shown in Figure 4-100. Three heat-resistant steel plates for support are uniformly distributed horizontally and welded to the inner wall of the furnace. In order to maintain the vertical state of the half shaft gear in the furnace at all times, the bottom of the heat resistant steel bolt is machined into a spherical surface (hereinafter referred to as SR). The hanging plate is made of heat-resistant steel, and each clamping hole should be uniformly distributed along the circumference of its plate surface. The hole opening should be processed into a spherical surface, with a SR slightly greater than SR. Some through-holes should be processed around each clamping hole to facilitate the circulation of atmosphere and quenching cooling medium. The upper and lower threads of the half shaft gear are impermeable with protective sleeves. At the same time, before heat treatment, an M8x10mm threaded hole is machined on one end face of the shaft to connect with a spherical 1-spherical bottom screw 2-suspension plate 3-support block bottom screw. After carburizing and quenching, the heat treatment distortion of the half shaft gear is micro 4-upper screw sleeve 5-half shaft gear 6-small furnace pot.

Example 2 Transmission input and output shafts require carburization and quenching.

(1) During the gear shaft distortion analysis process test, the heat treatment distortion rule is very good, but when the product is shipped for spot check, the detection results of tooth shape and tooth orientation are very poor. The analysis found that during the alignment process, due to the absence of a dual floating center grinding process, a similar radial drilling machine structure was used to adjust the upper and lower grinding centers to the same centerline to ensure the grinding effect. However, in fact, the center of the original center hole of the distorted gear shaft has deflected, and forced grinding of the center hole will inevitably destroy it.

(2) Improvement Measures and Gear Shaft Distortion Control Effect The center hole of a hollow shaft with axial oil holes is protected. The original vertical clamp is changed to a vertical installation with the center hole passing through a heat-resistant steel rod with four point supports, preventing and reducing the center hole distortion, and significant results have been achieved.
